Help VIDA Fitness find a cure for ALS in April
Team-up with VIDA Fitness during April to raise awareness and work towards finding a cure for ALS. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive motor neuron disease that prohibits voluntary muscle movement and inflicts approximately 30,000 Americans at a given time with 5,600 Americans newly diagnosed each year. This disease ultimately causes complete paralysis and can strike anyone. The life expectancy of ALS patients averages about two to five years from the time of diagnosis. As of now, there is no cure.
There are 2 ways for VIDA members to get involved in this amazing cause. First, you can sign-up for a 6 week Boot Camp at any VIDA location. Second, join us for one of two outdoor, Rooftop Cycle Classes on the Sun Deck of VIDA U Street. VIDA will donate 100% of the proceeds to Augie’s Quest, a nonprofit research initiative dedicated to finding treatments for the disease.
Augie’s Quest is an MDA ALS research initiative, and is dedicated to finding treatments and cures for ALS. Since its founding in 2006, donations from fitness enthusiasts have allowed scientists at the ALS Therapy Development Institute to screen more than 100 molecules to see if they affect the progression of the disease. The initiative was founded by Augie Nieto, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2005 and is now the co-chair of MDA’s ALS Division.
VIDA Fitness is proud to join Clubs for the Quest, which harnesses the power of health clubs and gyms across the country by hosting fitness-inspired charity events to benefit Augie’s Quest.
Our 6 week Boot Camp programs begin starting April 21st and we welcome members as well as their guests to participate. The 75-minute outdoor, Rooftop Cycle Class will take place on Saturday, April 26th at 11:00am and again at 12:30pm. Please email our Group Fitness Director, Alexx Zamudio, at [email protected] for more information or to sign-up for one of these programs. VIDA is also accepting general donations for those that would like to provide support, but are unable to attend either event. If you’d like to make a general donation, please email our Director of Operations, Aaron Moore, at [email protected].
