WHAT IS MYZONE?

MYZONE is a chest-strap heart rate monitor that you wear under your shirt while you workout. Simply download the MYZONE app, put on the belt, and start sweating! As you workout, the MYZONE belt monitors your heart rate and gives you points (MEP’s) based on your individual effort. Your MYZONE belt will also intuitively adjust your heart rate zones as you become more fit.

HOW DOES IT TRACK?

At first, MYZONE uses an algorithm derived by Londeree and Moeschberger (University of Missouri) to automatically establish your MAX HR based on your age:

Max HR = 206.3 – (0.711 x age)

However, once you push your maximum heart rate beyond this limit – the MYZONE profile will automatically adjust – creating a new accurate representation of your effort. So, how do we know so much about your individual heart rate? How do we track your progress? By uploading your baseline metrics and wearing the MYZONE physical activity belt directly below your heart, your heart rate is recorded in real time as you run, jump, lift, cycle, etc. You’ll be able to see exactly how much effort you’re exerting through every second of your workout, so you’ll know exactly how much work your body can handle and where you have room to push a little more. All of your historical workouts are downloaded via Bluetooth technology right to your iPhone, and you can even connect with your friends on the MYZONE app and track your progress with the built-in monthly leaderboards. The social integration component also allows you to view your friends’ workouts in real time and congratulate them on their success, which adds a truly innovative social accountability aspect to exercise.

UNDERSTANDING THE SCORE

MYZONE uses five color-coded Heart Rate Zones to establish the effort exerted based on your maximum heart rate (Max HR). The effort is calculated as a percentage of your personal Max HR.

The five Heart Rate Zones are:

  • Grey = 50% to 59% of Max HR
  • Blue = 60% to 69% of Max HR
  • Green = 70% to 79% of Max HR
  • Yellow = 80% to 89% of Max HR
  • Red = 90% to 100% of Max HR

You earn MYZONE Effort Points (MEP’s) based on the time you spend in each Heart Rate Zone:

  • Grey = 1 MEP per minute
  • Blue = 2 MEP’s per minute
  • Green = 3 MEP’s per minute
  • Yellow = 4 MEP’s per minute
  • Red = 4 MEP’s per minute
