Alex has been a Personal Trainer for 10 years, obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Fitness Management in 2007, and becoming a Certified Personal Trainer and strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, shortly thereafter.
Alex combines her education and years experience in the field to produce client centered programs that meet her client’s specific wants and needs. Alex enjoys assisting her clients on their individual journeys, and still agrees that the best feeling in the world is watching someone achieve success.
Alex is currently finishing her Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and hopes to incorporate physical and mental wellness in to her sessions in the future.

Allen is a NASM certified personal trainer. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Pre Professional Physical Therapy. He enjoys working with all types of clients and working through challenges to help clients toward their fitness goals. He is passionate about running and how it can improve the quality of life for everyone. Allen believes that people’s health is their wealth so taking care of the body is key to living a happy and prosperous life.
As a young girl, Amy grew up playing sports all year round. She started training in the weight room at an early age, working with plyometric experts and jumping in on the football team’s workouts whenever she could to improve her speed, agility, and quickness. This dedication continued during her collegiate career at Penn State, where she worked with some of the top athletes. Her passion for fitness continues to this day, as Amy is now a NASM-Certified personal trainer and an ACE-certified group fitness instructor. Amy strives for improvement, not perfection, and applies the same concept towards her clients’ training. She sets goals for herself and others that are achievable through hard work and dedication. She believes in loving what you do, because if you don’t love what you do you’ll find yourself putting in less than 100% effort. Fun fact: In her spare time, Amy likes to travel to compete in Spartan Races
Andy is a Master trainer with VIDA Fitness with five years of personal training experience. Andy specializes in strength and power based training sessions. Andy also has certifications in corrective exercise so he can help clients correct any muscle imbalances or weakness to then progress them into higher intensity strength training. Andy enjoys working with all types of members and enjoys the challenge of designing various programs for these different exercise backgrounds. Andy truly enjoys motivating his clients and helping them push past their fitness goals.
Anthony grew up in up-state New York participating in a variety of activities throughout is life (football, wrestling and snowboarding) which gave him the motivation to want to pursue a career in the fitness industry. Anthony used this background and career goal to earn a bachelor’s degree in Wellness Management from SUNY. Since he graduated from college Anthony has spent the last seven years working in the fitness industry and the last five years as a personal trainer. Anthony is certified through NPTI and holds a TRX training certification.
In 2010 Ari relocated to the DC area from Virginia Beach to persue a career in fitness, along that journey he has continued to grow and learn with every client. His passion has developed a unique mind, and skill set amongst the training staff here at Vida, focusing on proper muscle unit recruitment, strengthening limb support structures, and developing a fully functional core. With a background in sustained weight loss, and post physical therapy training programs; Ari enjoys the challenge of helping clients come to terms with physical limitations, while simultaneously exceeding their expectations. Don’t be scared though, Ari is great at reading people, and will change a workout on the fly to generate stress relief, or even laughter.
Bill has been a personal trainer with VIDA Fitness for four years. Bill strongly believes that the body should be trained as a complete unit and thus performs many total body workouts with his clients. Regardless of the exercise type or intensity Bill believes that proper posture, alignment and body mechanics should always be adhered to. Bill challenges his clients to continually improve upon their flexibility, strength and overall body condition. You will be hard pressed to train with anyone who will provide you with the depth and quality of personal attention as Bill offers.
Bradley is a certified personal trainer and pre-natal trainer with NASM. In addition to 7 years of fitness training, he earned his BFA in Theatre and Dance from East Carolina University. His passion for health, fitness and movement stemmed from his performance experience while realizing the true potential of the human mind and body. These personal experiences have been passed along to his clients as he helps each individual meet and exceed their goals while helping them realize their true potential and pushing new limits. Each educational session incorporates a well-rounded approach in order to focus on the current goals of each individual client. “When in doubt, perform more burpees!”
Brian is a certified personal trainer with ACSM. He has 18 years of personal training experience in addition to 10 years of coaching high school athletics. He earned his B.S. in Sports Science with a minor in Biology from Chowan University in North Carolina. His passion for health and fitness is embedded in his love of athletics and empowering clients to stay alive and active through sport and exercise. He believes in the benefits of self awareness and challenging people to step out of their comfort zone for improved results. His background in coaching high school sports for several years gives him special insight into the discipline required to make fitness a lifestyle and he enjoys motivating others to achieve their goals. He approaches training with results driven principles that meet each individual’s needs and trains a wide variety of clients with goals from performance enhancement to functional training
Brian strives to help clients achieve overall well-being in addition to meeting their individual physical goals. That means every session is focused on strengthening a sound body and mind. He actively listens to clients’ needs, restrictions, and aspirations to ensure they are always getting the attention they deserve and never “just going through the motions.”
Brian received his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from Sonoma State University in 2008. He has been a fitness trainer for nine wonderful years. Running through Rock Creek and spending time with his son are his two favorite things to do when he is not training Washingtonians.
Catherine holds a degree in Health Science from Boston University. During her time at BU, she spent two years as an athletic training student, working with various athletic teams at BU and MIT. Following graduation, she worked for a non-profit in DC dealing with issues related to health policy and then for a science and technology communications firm in Rockville. Catherine holds a certification from the American Council on Exercise. An avid golfer, she is Titleist Performance Institute certified and is currently working with several clients to improve their golf swing. Catherine also teaches TRX, boot camp, and VIDA Barre.
Chandini graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise and earned her personal training certification from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). She specializes in functional training, rehabilitative exercise, and weight loss with a focus in nutrition. Chandini has a thirst for knowledge and thanks her diverse group of clients for helping her learn new ways to motivate members.
Charles comes from a medical family and has been involved in athletics all his life. This gave him the platform to launch his fitness career. He attended Indiana University where he attained a B.S. in Kinesiology. Charles’ fitness philosophy is one that is centered around a sound physiological approach. This means making sure that the body is always in a position to build, and burn, and at the appropriate times (good form, good posture, balancing the muscle groups worked, etc.). Charles does this while following what’s called the functional progression, which is a building block approach that can be applied to any and all exercises and movement patterns.
With over 5 years of experience as a Personal Trainer Christy Vasquez also holds a certification in TRX suspension training, has completed her Pilates Mat Instructor program through BASI Pilates, and is currently working on attaining her Pilates Reformer Certification through Balanced Body. Christy bases her sessions on the Fundamentals of Pilates, and believes that using correct biomechanics is an essential step to gaining maximum effects from each workout. Christy also is experienced in functional movement exercise, as well as endurance coaching, and strength and conditioning training, all of which allow her to work with a wide variety of clients, of all different levels and physical backgrounds. By using a combination of disciplines, Christy ensures that every one of her clients receive a personally individualized, challenging, and fun workout so that they leave each session feeling aware and in control of their bodies.
Christine is a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer, and an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (200 hour). Christine earned her BA in political science and art history from Ohio State University (Go Bucks!). She has always loved sports and fitness, having played almost every sport you can think of, from softball to basketball to golf. She has run five marathons and is training for her first triathlon. Upon moving to DC, she worked on Capitol Hill, all the while pursuing her yoga teacher training certification, her personal training certification, and her certificate in holistic health coaching. After nearly 8 years, she transitioned to a full-time fitness career and joined the Vida team.
Christine believes that fitness should be fun, and that health and fitness is an integral part of a happy life. She focuses on conditioning, weight loss/maintenance, and building long, lean muscle. She will work with you to create a safe environment, where you feel free to communicate your needs. She’ll push you to your edge, but keep it friendly, fun, and safe. She also teaches several yoga classes at Vida, including power yoga, vinyasa, and restorative/gentle yoga.
Cole is a NASM certified personal trainer and a Certified Spinning Instructor. He has a background in various sports and enjoys running as a form of relaxation. His past in mostly sports conditioning has given him an understanding of common leg injuries and the ways to help prevent or rehabilitate them. His training focuses on perfecting form to improve function for a healthier lifestyle. Having had to rehabilitate himself after a severe accident, he understands the frustrations involved in the beginning stages of training and the need to progress gradually. Through dynamic program design, he can help clients set measureable goals and reach them in a safe and controlled manner.
Colleen manages the Fitness Program at VIDA U Street and loves splitting her training time between personal and small group training. She is a certified personal trainer with ACE, a Pilates Reformer (including the Lagree Method) & Yoga instructor, and is also certified in TRX Suspension Training, Zumba, Kickboxing, and Cycling. She has 10 years of experience leading groups and individuals with diverse fitness backgrounds to develop their workout regimens. Colleen believes in the benefits of variety and motivation in fitness and challenges her students and clients to discover what they can achieve when they step out of their comfort zones. She’s also a big believer in fitness as a lifestyle, so her clients can expect a gradual but effective approach that will help them change their habits and overcome their physical limitations to become the most healthy versions of themselves, whether that means limiting desk time, improving athleticism, losing weight, gaining flexibility, or building strength. Craig was born and raised in Pittsburgh , PA, and earned a BA from Penn State University. He came to DC back in 1999 and was stationed at Fort Myer, VA while in the US Army. He is a life-long fitness enthusiast and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He continues to challenge himself both academically and physically by completing certifications such as FMS, USA Track & Field, Tactical Strength & Conditioning Facilitator, and Precision Nutrition. He practice what he preaches and works with two internationally known strength coaches that have helped him translate the classroom information and apply it to real world conditions under the bar. Craig believes people need to learn to move well first and build strength second. This is a sure recipe for a long, strong, and healthy life no matter what your goals may be.
Craig has his personal training certification from NASM and earned a degree from Howard University in Nutrition. He has additional certifications that include prenatal and TRX. His love for activity has included years of track and field, basketball and baseball. His enthusiasm for activity carries over into his training with his clients as he forces them to ask themselves “how do we find your passion for fitness”? His latest joy is training seniors. His belief is that even in your golden years you may not be as fast or strong as the younger person, but your are definitely in the fitness game!
Philosophy: It sound so cliché , but I believe that, just as in all endeavors, including training, all goals can be achieved with hard work and dedication. Sacrifices and smalls steps are needed to reach that goal but each step should be taken one at a time. Put in the hard work and reap the benefits of the rewards!
Daryl is ISSA and NCCPT Certified. He is also a Certified Elite Calisthenics Specialist, and has over 17 years experience in Cardio-Weight Training, plus Conditioning. He teaches TRX and Boot Camp Groups.He has a knack for what he likes to call “Body Sculpting”. It’s tapping into the bodies potential and methodically cultivating it. Through creative, yet systematic regiments created by him the body is finely tuned and chiseled. Thus bringing about a mentally tougher, physically leaner, stronger and mobile client. He loves to motivate and push his client to be the very best they can be. This in turn shows in a healthier more productive lifestyle.
Dave Roberts specializes in coaching functional movements that provide real life adaptations. Beyond the basic squat, pull and pressing mechanics, he also has 7 years experience teaching Olympic Weightlifting and Gymnastics skills. Current certifications include Crossfit Level 1, Crossfit Olympic Weightlifting, Crossfit Powerlifting and Crossfit Gymnastics. A former D-1 soccer player, Dave has also competed several Crossfit competitions including qualification for the Central East Regionals in 2011. He graduated with a B.S. in economics from the University of Delaware and earned his Master’s in economics from Boston University.
David Rice is a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). He has over 30 years experience with weight training, cardio fitness and recently adding yoga to round at his fitness regime. His training style encompasses all three of these elements with the goal of achieving weight loss, muscular strength and endurance. Sessions are planned out in advance and tailored to each individual’s goals and fitness level. To keep things fun and interesting every workout is different from the next with varying degrees of intensity. The workouts can be challenging but if you’re willing to put in the time in effort you will be pleased with the results. His motto is “A healthy body means a better quality of life”
Derrick Martin is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist. The personal experience of battling back from obesity and injury has birthed an insatiable curiosity about all things related to sports and nutrition- particularly in the areas of weight loss and injury prevention and recovery. Derrick also excels in training for muscle hypertrophy and strength gains, having trained elite high school football players. One of Derrick’s core principles is, a balanced body acting in concert with a balanced mind can achieve greatness. His training philosophy reflects this by taking a very thoughtful approach to training balancing intuition, common sense along with the latest training research.
Dwayne brings over 20 years of fitness knowledge and management experience to VIDA Fitness. He helps all of his clients understand the basic functionality of human movement and mobility. Dwayne has trained clients ranging from the weekend warriors, cancer survivors, rehab patients, professional athletes, amateur bodybuilding and physique competitors, entertainers, and musicians. He believes that a personal trainer should be versatile enough to help anyone reach their fitness goals. In his personal time, Dwayne competes in bodybuilding competitions and has placed in the Top 5.
Eddie is from San Jose, CA where he spent all his free time in athletic pursuits from organized sports to martial arts, surfing, and BMX trials training. He took up weightlifting as a teenager to get stronger and improve his performance in football and rugby. In college, his love of weight training turned into bodybuilding as his physique developed. His excitement about health and fitness, results in a contagious enthusiasm during every training session. Eddie is an athlete, trainer and vegan, and is passionate about healthy living. He believes a holistic approach to health is the only approach that will guarantee phenomenal and lifelong results.
Edward brings 11 years of professional experience and multiple certifications, including National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer, Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), USA Track and Field Certified Coach, Boxing Instructor, and Pre/Post Natal Training. A well-versed and highly skilled personal trainer, he believes that achieving any fitness goal must begin with focused energy. Edward and his clients apply their combined energy to shatter goals and increase individual potential.
Elias Rush firmly believes it is his duty as a Personal Trainer to guide his clients and peers to become the best version of themselves possible. He has received a BA Degree from George Mason University in Biology and is currently a certified trainer through American College of Sports Medicine. He has worked with diverse health populations for over 5 years. His specialties include restoring faulty biomechanics, increasing structural integrity and identifying destructive unconscious behaviors. He is currently a North American Strongman Competitor that flips tires and picks up cars for fun!!
Emma is a certified personal trainer with National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). She earned a B.A. in Kinesiology & Nutrition Science from Whittier College in Los Angeles, California. Her passion for health and fitness began from her love of sports. Competing in gymnastics at a young age taught her discipline, independence, and the need for a strong core. You might see her walking around the gym on her hands. Over time she transitioned to soccer and was able to play at a high competitive club level and on her high school and college teams. Unfortunately, her college soccer career was cut short when she injured her knee. For the first time in her life she had to overcome a life without sports and the resulting weight gain. With time she is now back to being a fitness enthusiast. Her own struggles have helped her understand and deal with her clients’ own circumstances and life obstacles.
Training sessions are constantly varied with a fun and disciplined atmosphere all while making it an educational process. Her programs always include core work and a variety of exercises, with a focus on high intensity interval training, better know as HIIT training. HIIT sessions vary client to client because everyone has different goals and body types. Emma strives to transform and inspire other people to be the best version of themselves by helping them create an active and healthy lifestyle.
Enrique is an American Council on Exercise (ACE) Certified Personal Trainer and a VIDA Master Trainer. He helps clients define their goals, then assesses their abilities to perform a range of exercises, and creates a pathway for his clients to realize their goals. He emphasizes the correct form, movements and techniques to reduce risk of injuries, avoid muscle imbalances, and to increase muscle strength and endurance. Enrique has over 3 years experience in personal training and group fitness instruction including all forms of conditioning, small group training and TRX. As an ACE – Orthopedic Exercise Specialist, he has the expertise to help those who report being affected by knee, hip, lower back or shoulder pain, as well as those hindered by muscle imbalances or musculoskeletal disorders, or simply want help restoring function following orthopedic rehabilitation. As an ACE Sports Conditioning Specialist, Enrique’s strength and conditioning workouts combine intensity and creativity to make the program effective and enjoyable; after all, he believes exercising is a recreational activity, and everyone should enjoy doing it. Erik received his degree in Health Promotion & Fitness Management from Rowan University, where he specialized in exercise science and behavioral change. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Strength & Conditioning from George Washington University. Erik brings over 5 years of experience in personal training and group fitness instruction, including cycling, boot camp, abs, and high intensity interval training. He is well versed in many training methods and helps his clients overcome both the physical & psychological barriers to achieving their goals.
Everett Shipmon is a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer and NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), and focuses on functional core training and movement. He believes that a strong core is the key to feeling and moving smoothly. His energy, creativity and passion allows him to teach not only 1:1 clients but group and small groups. Everett has 10 years experience in the fitness industry and believes health and fitness are essential to enjoying life. His mantra is that consistency rewards well, and tells his clients, “You will feel better before you look better.”
Fernanda was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico, where she studied and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Law before moving to Washington, DC. Fernanda has always been athletic, participating in a variety of sports growing up, but ultimately fell in love with rock climbing. For her, climbing has had a great impact on her personal life and professional career, influencing her workouts and proving to her that with enough dedication, anyone is capable of a pull up.
Fernanda is a certified personal trainer with the NSCA, and holds certifications in Spinning, Pink Gloves Boxing, Pilates Reformer, RIP and TRX. Additionally, Fernanda received a Master’s degree in Sports Management from George Washington University, allowing her to develop strategic and innovative thinking around the business side of fitness, along with continuing to develop her knowledge and experience base. She believes in functional training and making sure that the body works properly before loading it with an intense training program. While Fernanda believes mobility is important, she believes that diversity and variety are the spice of life (and training!), and incorporates a diverse range of exercises in her daily sessions. You can expect to see Kettle Bells, rowing, handstands, plyometrics and more in her training and her clients’ training!
As a former ballet dancer of over ten years at the Richmond Ballet dance school in Richmond, Virginia — specific physical training has always been a part of Francine’s life. After suffering an ACL injury on her left knee, it was almost impossible to continue doing pointe work during ballet. From there Francine ventured out to find other ways to remain physically fit. After coming to Washington, DC in 2013 and joining VIDA Fitness one year later she found a new joy in practicing Olympic Weightlifting. She now enjoys motivating and empowering people who are new to gym to overcome their fitness fears, discover their inner strengths, be challenged by the weight room floor and find their joy through being physically fit!
Gene believes that the cultivation of a strong, capable body is fundamental to a high quality of life. While “strong & capable” varies depending on the individual, the learning journey that takes place builds energy, confidence, and appreciation of one’s own body. Gene employs a blend of strength & conditioning techniques, proportioned specifically to help his clients meet their fitness goals. He has worked with clients from all walks of life, across a wide range of ages, athletic interests, and health backgrounds.
Gene is a certified trainer under the National Academy of Sports Medicine, with a secondary certification as a Precision Nutrition coach. Formerly a student and practitioner of architecture, he has translated his passion for creative problem-solving into the realm of health & fitness. Gene has worked previously as a Spinning instructor as well as a swimming coach and instructor.
George T. Cruz has been in the health and fitness industry for 7 years and has come to realize the importance of approaching health and fitness by addressing the mind and spirit as well as the body.
Specialize in functional-custom training routines and group fitness. He likes to challenge and encourage his clients to surpass their physical and mental boundaries by using functional exercises. His Motto: You have to put the time & energy if you are willing to do work… you can see what achievements are.
Isaac Way is a certified personal trainer with the NSCA and NCCPT, a NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist and Corrective Exercise Specialist, and an American Bicycling League Cycling Instructor. Isaac has a B.A. in International Studies and a graduate certificate in International Disaster and Emergency Management from Hawai’i Pacific University. Growing up with a mountain as his backyard and pursuing outdoor sports, Isaac believes in functional movement and exercises that enable you to not only become stronger, but also feel and move better. Overcoming and rehabilitating from a hindering amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome, Isaac understands that pain comes in a variety of forms and for many different reasons, which are reducible and even resolvable with the proper application of exercise science. Isaac applies his expertise to meet clients where they are at, and he empowers them with individualized programs and an all-encompassing approach to exercise and fitness.
Isiah has worked in the fitness industry for the past eight years. Isiah was a collegiate soccer player who played four years of soccer on scholarship. Isiah has worked with professional soccer players on and off the field to help them increase their: strength, power and endurance. Most recently Isiah has spent the last four years working with VIDA Fitness. The majority of this time has been spent as a Personal Training Manager. Isiah holds multiple training certifications and spends a lot of his time working on correcting asymmetries to allow the body to move through more fluid movement patterns. Isiah believes that you have to build the body up one brick at a time. If there are cracked “bricks” (poor movement patterns) Isiah will take them out and work to replace them for a better “brick”. Isiah will train you and your body for the game of life. We are training to age well and to be able to move in any manner that we choose at any age that we choose. Isiah puts a large focus on core strength and body posture both in and out of each session. Isiah will help you move better both in the short-term and the long-term.
Jacqui has her BS from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She is a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise and a Certified Aerobics Instructor from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. Jacqui first found her love of fitness through belly dancing, she loved it so much that she decided to make fitness and dance her career. She has experienced firsthand the positive effects of a healthy lifestyle and understands the challenges that come with balancing the time for home, work, and fitness. She listens and creates a well balanced workout specifically to fit your needs. With her knowledge, experience, and love of dance she is ready to share her passion and success strategies with you. In addition to personal training Jacqueline teaches both dance and weight based classes such as Zumba(r), VIDA RX, RIP 45, and BARRE.
Jade is a born and raised D.C. native. As a kid she was always active and played a variety of sports, but soccer was her favorite! She attended Faulkner University on a soccer scholarship and realized that fitness training was the perfect career path. Jade is a National Exercise Sports Training Association Certified Personal Trainer. Jade’s specialty is strength & conditioning. She encourages and supports her clients that any physical workout is more mental than anything. Jade wants everyone to take working out less seriously and have fun with it like she does. In her spare time she still plays soccer and works with the Howard University men’s soccer team as their assistant trainer.
As a NASM certified personal trainer and former NCAA football and track athlete, Jahrod has a wealth of knowledge in exercise and fitness. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Basic Science and served in the Air Force for 14 years. An avid TRX enthusiast, Jahrod believes that a good plank leads to a strong core which is the basis for all movement. He likes to combine his experience and knowledge from being an athlete to his military training to help and progress others to become stronger and faster and to help them to work longer and harder.
James Muwonge is a personal trainer who is certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He has practiced capoeira, the dance, fight, and martial art of Afro-Brazilian culture, for many years and has been a student of health and fitness for a lifetime. James works with a diverse clientele, utilizing his skills as a fitness and wellness practitioner to design and implement customized programs for his clients. From athletes looking to improve their performance in the game to new mothers seeking a coach to design their postpartum exercise plans, James is enthusiastic, creative, and effective in assisting people along their health and fitness journeys. James has extensively studied the body’s kinesthetic properties, structure, and joint mechanics. Years of research and practice in the field have led him to create a unique stretch system known as Tao of Happiness. The Tao of Happiness stretch curriculum engages different muscle systems in a complete workout that encourages the client to become more aware of his or her body’s strengths and lesser strengths. A firm believer in everyone’s innate ability to become their best self, James designed the Tao of Happiness process to support the client in identifying and choosing their most authentic path for growth. James has combined core elements of Tao of Happiness with his knowledge of capoeira to create Capoeira Stretch. Inspired by his own studies as a student of capoeira, James developed Capoeira Stretch as a method of limb and joint rejuvenation to complement the intense physical demands of training. He has over two decades of personal training and endurance racing experience, and he specializes in improving form, core strength, balance, and athletic performance. Jeff enjoys working with beginners looking to get healthy, injured athletes looking to get back in the game, and experienced athletes looking to take on new challenges. Jeff aims to helping his clients achieve their fitness goals, whatever their experience, while keeping the workouts fun and engaging.
Jessica believes that exercise should be fun. She has a passion for helping others reach their fitness goals and aims to make every day ridiculously amazing. Jessica helps her clients get out of their comfort zone and teaches them to never underestimate themselves. She has a genuine enthusiasm for health and fitness and uses 14 years of competitive gymnastics and diving background to design challenging dynamic workouts that often involve at least one handstand.
Jessica is a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer as well as a United States Gymnastics Association certified coach. In addition to her fitness training, she earned her B.A. in Psychology Premed and her Master Degree in Public Health.
Jesse Johnson joined VIDA as a Personal Trainer in December 2011. His experience in Isolation work allows his clients to train without injury and many clients see success quickly when working with Jesse. As a personal trainer at VIDA, Jesse’s goal is to provide a comprehensive approach to training so clients understand not only what they are doing, but how they can duplicate it again on their own. Countless clients use Jesse’s approach in their continued health and fitness, far beyond initial training with him. Jesse hopes to get each client to the “Best Physical Version” of themselves at VIDA.
Justin earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health Promotions from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where he also played football. He’s currently finishing his Master’s of Science in Exercise Science, with emphasis in Sports Performance Training. Justin holds both NSCA-CSCS and FMS Level 2 certifications and has volunteered his time as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Wisconsin and Georgetown University. He moved from Wisconsin with his wife and joined VIDA in 2014 as a Personal Trainer prior to his promotion to Assistant General Manager. Justin believes in using scientifically proven methodology to help members reach their goals through prescribing individualized programming.
Kadeem’s first priority is to ensure that his clients move well today, tomorrow and when they are 70 years old. As a former collegiate athlete (football) Kadeem has dealt with numerous injuries over the years, most notably an ACL tear and total knee reconstruction. Strength based movements and perfect posture throughout these movements are Kadeem’s emphasis. Together he and his clients “start to build a house on a solid foundation” from which the training program can diverge into: body building, strength training and/or weight loss. Being physically fit is a challenge in mental toughness and accountability. Kadeem is always pushing his clients to challenge themselves on a daily basis.
Katie is a certified personal trainer with the American Council on Exercise. She studied Business Marketing at the University of Mississippi where she found her passion for health and fitness. After years of struggling with being overweight and eating disorders, Katie believes in the personal strength that comes with a healthy lifestyle. Kelly joined Vida in 2008. A vast background filled with 16years of active duty military service, Kelly lives by discipline. She believes in pushing hard, never giving up on yourself or your shipmates. She has dedicated her life to helping others. Kelly loves to share core values of respect and honor with her clients, teaching them techniques to reach their own goals. Life changed for Kelly when she became a licensed skydiver in 2001 and later a skydiving instructor, She believes in the unlimited potential of the human body. Kelly offers variety in training techniques and certified in multiple areas including general group EX, bootcamp, rebound training, Cycle, weights, TRX, and Pilates Reformer.
While training as a track and field hurdler and majoring in exercise physiology at the University of Michigan, Keri’s love for developing the inner athlete was born. After winning several Big Ten Conference honors, she went on to become a decorated track coach, sending several athletes to college on scholarship. However, her passion lied not only in developing the elite athlete, but in introducing novice athletes to their physical limits and pushing them to become their best selves mentally, emotionally, and athletically. She now carries that passion into her personal training style, where she combines her education and athletic experience into a program that incorporates injury prevention, conditioning, speed/agility, strength, and functional high intensity training. Additionally, she infuses power and explosiveness to varying degrees depending on the specific goals and desires of the client. By nature, she is a motivator and she thrives on helping clients increase their confidence, challenge their bodies, and find or re-discover their inner athlete.
Kevin is a certified personal trainer with the National Federation of Professional Trainers, an NGA men’s physique pro and an NPC classic physique competitor. He has 5 years of body building experience in addition to his 10 years as a personal trainer. Kevin’s background in athletics made the transition into health and fitness comfortable, but it was his own physical transformation several years ago that gave him special insight into the discipline required to make fitness a lifestyle. He approaches training with creativity to meet each individual’s needs and enjoys empowering his clients to meet their diverse goals, ranging from muscle building and conditioning to weight loss.
Khetab attended North Carolina Central University with a focus of Exercise Science. He is certified in personal training with the Athletic and Fitness Association of America with a specialty in functional movement screening (FMS) and active and passive stretching. Before attending college Khetab spent 8 years living abroad. He spent 5 years in China and 3 years in South America. While living in China he had studied Wushu which allowed him the opportunity to learn about a different approach to health and longevity. This had a major influence on him and has contributed to his training style today. He seeks to maximize the functionality and enhance the capacity of his clients not only physic but overall wellness. He continues to elevate his quest to bringing a new meaning to the health and fitness world by continuing his education and practice of Chi Gong(energy cultivation). He is an instructor of a new system called “Ra chi gong”. Through the merger of Eastern and Western philosophy and approach toward health, Khetab applies these methods to elevate his clients to being the very best version of themselves
Kristin holds certifications in Personal Training and Performance Enhancement Specialist through NASM and ACSM, Functional Movement Levels 1 and 2, TRX suspension training, and NASE speed specialist. Her education consists of a B.S. in Athletic Training from George Mason University, and a M.S. in Exercise Science from California University of Pennsylvania. Not only does she specialize in functional training for runners, and triathletes she also does balance and stability work with the older population. Kristin’s training style is work hard, train hard, and always do it with a smile. She been a devoted employee of VIDA fitness since the day they opened.
Lisa joined the Vida team in 2010 with 4 year of previous personal training experience. Lisa is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and hold a corrective exercise specialization through them as well as an undergraduate degree in Health Science from Marymount University and a masters degree in Forensic Science from the UK. She is certified in TRX, Kinesiology taping, FMS (Functional Movement Screen), Real Ryder and MadDogg. You can find her on the fitness floor or in the spinning studio or TRX studio teaching a class. She is originally from Sweden so if you ever hear a Swedish song in her class, or she references a saying that does not make any sense that is why.
Lisa struggled with her weight while she was younger and got into teaching classes first but it was not until she combined correct weight lifting and spinning, along with healthy eating that she started seeing results. She loves making people laugh and feel good about themselves while having fun. When Lisa is not in the gym she is either seeing friends or family, traveling, selling houses or doing something outdoorsy.
Luciane Guilmard has worked at VIDA since January of 2009. Originally from Brazil, she earned her Bachelor’s in Physical Education from the University of South Fatima. She has been working since 1993 in physical education and personal training, both in the U.S. and in Brazil. Luciane became a Les Mills certified RPM and Body Balance instructor in 2002, but her teaching repertoire includes strength training, conditioning, cycling, yoga, aqua-aerobics, pre and post-pregnancy, stretching, and TRX suspension training. She continuously strives to stay current with, and incorporate the newest trends and innovations in fitness.
She is extremely knowledgeable about different body types; whatever your ambitions, fitness level, or age, she will customize a workout to meet your personal goals. She adjusts the training to the needs and desires of each person, from intense to low impact. As someone who loves to push herself to the limit, Luciane knows firsthand what it takes to train to the lifestyle of her dreams. Mahi is a Certified Personal Trainer focused on providing the highest quality individual personal training services. Malik aka “Seven” is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. He has over 20 years experience as a professional ballet dancer for some of America’s leading companies. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Choreography & Dance Education from New School University/Joffrey Ballet. An advocate of total body health, Malik was led to a career in fitness where he takes the same dedication, discipline, and focus from dance training into transforming the lives of each person he works with. His recovery from injuries during his career has made him an observant and focused trainer who seeks to eliminate the defects of the body to avoid any potential injuries. Training a varied range of ages, sexes and body types, Malik specializes in weight loss, strength building, conditioning, and coordination.
Maria is a two time All American Rower who trained at an elite level for seven years in hopes of making the Olympic Rowing Team. Maria has been coaching and training for the past fifteen years. Maria holds a degree in Exercise Science and certifications from: ACSM and Crossfit. Maria’s training style focuses on functional fitness with a goal of developing her clients total body strength. Maria also teaches boot camp classes for VIDA at our U Street location.
Matt is a NASM certified personal trainer specializing in group training. His holistic philosophy combines creative strength and conditioning workouts with healthy lifestyle choices. He creates personalized plans to empower clients to achieve optimum health and performance and specific fitness goals. Utilizing a positive and resiliency-based coaching method, he encourages clients to work hard for transformative results. Matt is a DC native and lifelong athlete who played collegiate basketball at Christopher Newport University. Through athletics, he developed a passion for fitness and teamwork.
Medina has been working as a Certified Personal Trainer since 2004. She uses these years of experience to design personalized fitness programs to achieve the best results for each individual client. Medina uses a wide variety of different training styles based on the goals and needs of each client, but specializes in weight loss and endurance training as well as post- and pre- pregnancy training. She has worked with a broad clientele including athletes and body builders and well as clients with shoulder, knee, ankle, back and hip injuries and surgeries. Medina is very active in the body building world being a prep and posing coach for bikini, figure, women and men’s physique and body building.

Nigel joined Vida Fitness in April of 2012. With his background in physical therapy he likes to take a careful concentrated approach with each client so that their fitness program is tailored to their specific individual need. Nigel loves working with clients coming off injury, and who need detailed guidance in strength and resistance training, core conditioning, and cardiovascular endurance. Certified in TRX Suspension Training, Functional Movement Screens Level 1 and 2, and Sports and Performance Training, he uses a variety of skills to ensure his clients are hitting their fitness goals in a safe and fun environment. He also loves outdoor activities such as basketball, track and field, and hiking and will incorporate these into his workouts with clients.
Paula graduated from college in 2010 with a degree in Sports Science and an emphasis in Health. Since then, she has worked with diverse populations in therapeutic settings as well as fitness and sports. Her experience ranges from individuals with special health conditions and disorders to performance athletes of all ages. Paula holds certifications in Personal Training, Strength and Conditioning Coaching and Inclusive Fitness Training, as well as qualifications for TRX Suspension Training and TRX Functional Training.

Peter’s passion for fitness was birth out of a personal need to improve his health at the age of 17 years old weighing over 300lbs. He was borderline hypertensive, diabetic midway high school. After a year of intense exercise and restricted eating habits he was able to transform his body, reversing the onset of obese related diseases and most importantly became personal trainer 5 years to date. Peter’s fitness philosophy in short is “anyBODYcan” – which welcomes the success of everyone regardless of their fitness background and or physical limitations. With diversified workouts, attention to details, punctuality for sessions proves successful with client recruitment and retention.
Peter holds certifications in Kettle Bells, pre and post natal. He as a BA in English/Linguistics and started a MA in English/Education from both CUNY/ College of Staten Island and and Bard College Respectively.

Peter is a regional judge for body building, physique, figure and bikini competitions throughout the DC metro area. Phaon is a DC local who is coming up on his third year at VIDA Verizon. He is certified through the American Council on Exercise and received his bachelors degree in Kinesiology from Elon University. Phaon played rugby at the collegiate level and his background in athletics have lead him to specialize in strength training for athletic performance and weight loss.
Pruitt is a Certified NASM personal trainer. He has been involved in fitness for at least 20 years from playing Football, to strength competitions, to competing in the NPC Men’s physique division. He holds two BA’s one in Mathematics and one in Computer Science. He worked for his college athletics department as a weight coach and a soccer and basketball assistant. He believes you can shape your body into any form you envision if you are willing to dedicate, work hard and believe in your personal vision. He trains in a goal oriented style; “if your goal is to complete an obstacle course then let’s get you there”. He greatly enjoys flexibility training, plyometrics, strength training and body building. Pruitt has help with massive transformations including losing 65 lbs himself to go from power lifter to stage ready.
Rachel is a certified personal trainer with NASM, a certified Fitness Nutritional Specialist, Functional Movement Screen Professional Levels 1 & 2, and is also certified in TRX suspension training. She has 25 years of dance experience in addition to her fitness training, and earned her B.A. in English Literature with a minor in Modern Dance from Washington University in St. Louis. Her passion for health and fitness is routed in her love of movement and empowering clients to transform their lives and relationships to their bodies and exercise. She believes in the benefits of variety in fitness and challenging people to step out of their comfort zone for improved results. Rafael is a certified personal trainer with NASM. He is also certified in TRX suspension training and teaches Mixed Martial Arts. He has 25 years of experience playing soccer, is a Tae Kwon Do black belt and, is a Relson Gracie Jiu Jitsu brown belt. Having played and competed in many sports his whole life, Rafael knows and understands the hard work and dedication a person must have to achieve a fitness goal. Having trained professional fighters, Rafael uses his experience and implements the same kind of philosophy to his clients. Whether it’s losing weight, gaining strength, building muscle or cardiovascular endurance, hard work and commitment are a must. His style of training is very challenging, but effective. His workouts are a mix of cardio, weights, plyometrics, circuit training, kickboxing and grappling. He is known to push his students and clients beyond limits they never thought they could ever achieve.
Growing up, Raul has always had an interest in the health and fitness field; Graduating with Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Fitness and Recreation, with a concentration in Sports Management at George Mason University. He has over 7 years experience training all types of clientele and is an excellent motivator. Certified by the National Council of Sport and Fitness (NCSF) and NASM as Corrective Exercise Specialist he’s able to give push his clients in a variety of way to hit their goals. In his free time, Raul enjoys watching and participating in sports, listening and dancing Latin music, and spending time with friends and family.
Sam uses his 17 years of martial arts experience and extensive fitness, coaching, strength and conditioning skills to design sports-specific, functional, realistic training programs as well as cardiovascular conditioning and weight loss. As a seasoned personal trainer, Sam brings versatility in training. Having first-hand experience in weight loss, muscle gain, toning, building strength, power and explosiveness for over a decade, Sam uses his own experience to build specific training goals for each client to achieve their highest fitness levels. Sam’s biggest accomplishment is that after winning various titles and belts in North America, He trained, vigorously for months and fought in the WKA world kickboxing tournament, winning a Bronze metal out of 300 fighters and 58 countries.

Sarah started personal training while in college at Virginia Tech and built the personal training program at Florida Atlantic University during her first year of graduate school. She spent the next 5 years coaching collegiate strength and conditioning at schools such as Virginia Tech and the University of Maryland before coming to VIDA. Sarah’s training style is very strength and conditioning based. She believes strength improves not only performance but also quality of life. Sarah is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a USA Weightlifting Coach. She has competed in figure and power lifting and currently competes in Olympic Weightlifting.
Spencer is from a small town in Iowa and grew up playing baseball, basketball, and football. He also ran track and loves to golf in his spare time. Spencer really enjoys to work out because of the feeling of accomplishment that comes immediately after exercise. Spencer parlayed his love of sport and fitness into a Bachelors Degree from Iowa State University in Kinesiology or Exercise Science. He maintains a certification for personal training through the American College of Sports Medicine.
Stephen has been a personal trainer for more than 10 years, building health, wellness and fitness programs for his clients around an understanding of the potential of the human body and the progressive methods best suited for transforming it.
Stephen has formal training in exercise physiology with a Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University. He is also accredited by the National Academy of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise, Muscle Activation Technique Specialist and a mastery certification as a Resistance Training Specialist. This academic and applied understanding of the human body and its functions, coupled with Stephen’s broad experience in training his clients, enables him to address the causes and conditions that can inhibit optimal performance. Marrying strength training, muscle therapy, nutrition and conditioning, Stephen’s integrated approach to fitness allows him to guide his clients to increased levels of athletic performance and well-being. Many clients who have experienced setbacks or had difficulty sustaining a higher level of activity elsewhere have found that Stephen’s integrated approach has allowed them to find a satisfying, sustained evolution in their level of activity and performance.
Steve grew up as an athlete and an avid outdoorsman. As an Eagle Scout, Steve spent years cultivating camaraderie, confidence, and competency in others in many technical survival skills and a host of outdoor activities, such as hiking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, and sailing – to name a few. Looking into his athletic background, Steve is a former football player, track and field athlete, and swim team coach, which serve as a complement to the decade he spent as a competitive archer, martial artist, and student of Zazen meditation. Recently, Steve has undertaken study of therapeutic soft tissue manipulation and the movement meditation that is Qi Gong.
Steve received a B.S. in Exercise Science from the George Washington University, and is certified as a personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He holds several other certifications relating to posture optimization, injury prevention, and orthopaedic exercise, as well as being a certified Pink Gloves Boxing instructor and Emergency Medical Technician. Drawing from his versatile background, Steve adapts his training to best fit the individual needs of each of his clients along their fitness journey – often incorporating high intensity interval training (HIIT), advanced bodyweight movements, and injury prevention techniques. Understanding that we all come from different backgrounds and have varying fitness levels and goals, Steve customizes his workouts to uniquely serve every client he works with. It is his opinion that taking a balanced approach to fitness is what will lead you to your goals. Dr. Chavez coaches his clients to modify lifestyle behaviors to improve their current fitness levels and to reach their fitness goals. Dr. Chavez has worked with a variety of demographics from children to seniors so he is equipped with the knowledge to help any of our members with their fitness goals.
Steven has a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Science from Colorado State University. He is a certified personal trainer through ACSM and hold a certification in TRX suspension training. His passion for exercise grew through playing sports in his youth. Steven enjoys working with all different kinds of people as long as they have a set goal and are motivated in working toward achieving that goal.
Growing up with a love of food and aversion to exercise, Taisha Hayes weighed nearly 300 pounds by age 23. Realizing she needed to make a change, Taisha lost over 130 pounds without giving up her appreciation for food. In the process she learned to love exercise and even became an AFAA – Aerobics & Fitness Association of America Certified Personal Trainer! Taisha has maintained her weight loss for over 11 years and loves to share her secrets with the world. Ternisha has a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from Delaware State University. She is a certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).Ternisha was overweight as a child and started her transformative journey in high school where she developed her passion for fitness through sports. Ternisha played various sports such as basketball, track & field, cross-country , softball, and cheerleading and continued cheerleading in college. Ternisha implements her ability to motivate and push her clients beyond their perceived limits. She believes that her clients should have fun while being challenged and uses funny analogies and examples that they can relate to. She also uses her diverse background in dance with styles such as hip hop, lyrical, jazz, and tap to make things different and fun. Her style is creative and high energy using HIIT training, plyometrics as well as basic strength and conditioning.
Thomas graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences and is certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the National Personal Training Institute (NPTI). He helps his clients realize and achieve their individual needs and goals through proper exercise programming. Thomas emphasizes core stability training along with strength training that uses proper form in order to avoid and reduce the risk of injury. Thomas has experience running many group exercise classes, such as boot camps, strength and conditioning, and is certified using the TRX suspension trainer – which allows him to always present engaging and challenging workouts.
Tony believes that anybody could get the body of their dreams with a little bit of hard work and dedication. He is a motivated, professional and educated individual with a solid passion for fitness, health and overall well-being. Tony loves to coach his clients on living a holistically great lifestyle where you can have it all, without compromising anything. He is very well knowledgeable when it comes to muscle mass and nutrition and just building a great physique overall.
Tony is currently going to school at University of Maryland, College Park. He will graduate in 2018 with a major in Exercise Science and a minor in Entrepreneurship. Besides being a fitness addict, Tony likes to spend his free time reading lots of books and traveling.
Vincent has always had a passion for sports which led him to pursue more knowledge in how the human body functions in relation to sports. He earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology- the study of human movement and physical activity while exploring its impact on health, society, and quality of life from Temple University. He is also a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer. Vincent promotes a very healthy learning environment and long lasting impression with his clients by ensuring that not only do they attain all of their fitness goals but also understand the reason and consequent impacts of every movement performed.
