Your First Facial Treatment: What To Expect!
We all spend time and money keeping our nails manicured and our hair healthy, but oftentimes we forget that our skin needs a little TLC too. Regular facial treatments are just as important as the rest of your health and beauty regimens, especially during the hot summer months!
Facials are an excellent way to maintain and deep-cleanse your skin and get rid of impurities. Even if you’re already cleansing, toning and moisturizing at home (which you should be!) getting regular facials allow these products to work more efficiently and will leave you with clearer, healthier skin as a result.
So how does a facial work exactly? Aura spa Esthetician Stephanie Kruse walks us through what to expect in a 30 or 60 minute facial and why they’re a must for your skincare routine.
Like most spa and fitness services, you’ll start with a skin consultation. Your Esthetician will analyze your skin type and determine which products will work best for your skins’ needs. Whether you’re especially oily (a common summertime problem,) dry, acne-prone or looking for anti-aging treatment, your session will be customized for what your face needs.
The first step will be an exfoliating cleanse using either an organic, enzyme-based exfoliant or a chemical peel with different strengths based on your skin’s individual needs. This will dissolve your dead skin cells leaving your skin nourished and renewed. The 30 minute facial includes just the cleansing and exfoliation – but the 60 minute is when we really get down to business.
After your exfoliation in the 60 minute facial, your Esthetician will use light pressure to remove the clogged up oil and dirt from your pores in what’s called an ‘extraction.” Don’t worry – this feels more like a light massage than something that happens in a dentist’s chair.
“First-timers are sometimes nervous about the extraction/exfoliation procedure, but our products are result-oriented without causing any irritation or aggravation to the skin. It’s very relaxing!” says Stephanie.
Finally, your session will end with a clay-based mask to really pull out impurities and hydrate your skin. Finish up with a little moisturizer and SPF and you’re done! You’ll feel incredibly relaxed and your skin will feel smooth and healthy.
Stephanie recommends getting a facial every 4-6 weeks, and more often during the hot and sticky summer months.
“In this weather we’re exposed to more free radicals in the air which can accelerate the aging process, and more sweat production which makes skin oily and congested. It’s incredibly important to take care of your skin the same way you take care of your nails, hair, etc.,” says Stephanie.
Aura spa facials can be tailored to meet a variety of common skin needs – from anti-aging, acne-control, skin brightening and wrinkle-fighting. We also offer the back facial for a deep pore cleanse on the hard to reach but acne-prone back area.
