Meet The New Registered Dietitian At VIDA
By Mekita Rivas, VIDA editor/member

Olivia Brant is the new registered, licensed dietitian at The Yards location.
We know that fitness doesn’t just start and stop at the gym. Making smart food choices is just as important as getting in those regular workouts. That’s why we offer nutritional counseling services with our team of registered, licensed dietitians — and we are so excited to introduce you to the newest member of that team! Meet Olivia Brant, the resident RD at VIDA Fitness at The Yards. We took a moment to catch up with Olivia to learn more about her background and why being an RD is her dream job.
What excites you about joining the VIDA community?
The opportunity to learn from experts in disciplines other than nutrition. Having a structured exercise regimen with a personal trainer, taking time to relax and recover at the spa, and self-care at the salon are just as important as nutrition for overall well-being.
How did you know that you wanted to pursue a career as a registered dietitian?
Honestly, there was never a “light-bulb moment.” I have always loved food, cooking, and exercise. One thing led to another, and I sort of stumbled into my dream career. I began teaching group exercise classes while studying nutrition in undergrad, and I’ve been working as a dietitian in the fitness setting while finishing my master’s degree in exercise science. The nutrition field is growing rapidly, and I’m excited to see how it evolves over the next couple of years.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love encouraging clients to have a positive association with food and eating, no matter their goals. I believe in moderation, not deprivation. Educating people on why they should eat more carbohydrates is the best!
What are some of your personal fitness and wellness goals?
I’m training for my first marathon this fall! There are so many great running paths around The Yards that I want to check out, and I’m looking forward to getting into group fitness classes for my cross training days.
What’s your typical workout routine?
I like to be active every day. Group fitness settings are where I feel the most motivated and inspired, but I mix it up with running, hiking, and long walks with my dog. I’ve also recently been getting into indoor rock climbing, and I hope to climb outside before the end of the fall season.
What would you say to someone who’s skeptical about working with a registered dietitian?
I would tell them that the service is invaluable. You can spend days reading articles online from “experts” who aren’t registered dietitians, and you can try to piece together a diet plan on your own. However, I will help you understand the basis behind why you should eat the foods that you do, while also creating a sustainable plan that you can stick to for longer than a few months.
