Looking for a healthy outlet to channel some pent-up aggression? Or maybe you’re interested in stepping beyond your comfort zone and trying something different. Whatever the case, VIDA’s brand new boxing studio is just the place for you!
Located on the second floor of VIDA Fitness The Yards, the studio is equipped with heavy bags, mitts, gloves, and everything you need for a serious sweat sesh. And in case you haven’t heard, boxing is definitely having a major moment. From celebrities doing bag work on Instagram to boxing studios popping up left and right, the workout has proved to be much more than a fleeting fitness fad.
That’s something we’ve recognized here at VIDA, which is why we’re so excited to bring this dynamic workout directly to our members.
“Boxing is an incredible conditioning workout that challenges participants mentally and physically,” says Colleen Palomaa, General Manager at VIDA Fitness at The Yards. “I can’t wait for our members to take advantage of what we’ve been able to do with our space.”
Sam Yousefi, VIDA Fitness Master Trainer, leads the boxing program at The Yards. A former professional fighter himself, Sam is now a boxing/MMA coach who guides members through the typical boxer’s workout.

VIDA Master Trainer & Boxing Instructor Sam Yousefi
The program includes high intensity interval training (HIIT) for the first hour, which is also an opportunity for beginners to develop their technique. Sam offers a 10- to 15-minute instructional for newcomers to learn the proper form for basic punches. The second hour is an advanced class for those who want to progress and build upon their foundation.
“There is no better feeling than getting out of the office or work and letting out steam,” Sam says. “Punching and kicking pads is very therapeutic. Try a class for free, but be warned that you might get addicted.”
Take, for example, VIDA member Steve Sothmann, who’s been boxing with Sam for about two years. Steve says the new studio provides “a top-notch boxing experience.”
“The people in class are super helpful and always encouraging, and Sam is a great coach and trainer,” says Steve. “I think a lot of people would like to give the sport a try, but they might get intimidated. We’ve all been there at some point, and you’ll get through that initial learning curve much quicker than you might think.”
For anyone who’s on the fence about boxing, Sam suggests branching out and — maybe, just maybe — being pleasantly surprised.
“Try something that will challenge you, that you can benefit from, and that is most likely the best workout of your life,” says Sam. “On top of that, it’s a lot fun.”
Ready to glove up? Check out a demo class by reserving your space in VIDA’s MindBody app. No experience is required, but you’ll want to bring a pair of boxing gloves if you’d prefer not to use the communal gloves. Contact Sam at syousefi@vidafitness.com with any questions and to get started!
