Class Spotlight: Sunrise Yoga
When it comes to the best way to start your mornings, you can’t really beat doing yoga with the sun rising in the background. An hour-long yoga class first thing in the morning gives your body a chance to wake up physically and your mind the opportunity to reset from yesterday and get ready to tackle the day ahead.
After you’ve had your cup of coffee (or three) head over to VIDA with your mat for Sunrise Yoga – starting anywhere from 6-6:45am (depending on location.) What better way to get energized for the day than with some Chaturangas?
“It’s a great way to break a sweat and get your serotonin flowing before work. It gives me the balance I need to start the day,” says Angela Meyer, who teaches sunrise yoga at multiple VIDA locations.
Practicing yoga at such an early hour has a ton of proven benefits including regulating sleep patterns and improved metabolism throughout the day. The deep breathing also floods your body with oxygen, which wakes up the brain and gives you a natural boost of energy – so you might not even need to reach for that extra cup of coffee!
There are several yoga formats that are offered at the ‘sunrise’ time, including Vinyasa, Power and even a heated sunrise yoga at the Yards! (Thursdays at 6:30am) Heated yoga adds another detoxifying element to your morning practice by flushing toxins out of your skin and making your muscles work harder to keep up with your elevated heart rate. By the time you hit the showers and are on your way to work you’ll feel refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to take on the day.
Another amazing option to take advantage of while the weather is still warm is our Vinyasa on the roof class at the Yards! Every Friday at 6:30am for the rest of the summer you can start your morning with Vinyasa at the Penthouse Pool Club. The beautiful morning views make the environment even more peaceful and calming, and you can literally watch the sun rise while practicing!
If you’ve never been one for early morning workouts, we highly suggest you give it a try. You’ll arrive at work feeling calmer, stronger and more balanced, plus you’ll already have your yoga practice done for the day. Plus, getting to watch the sun rise from your downward dog is pretty awesome!
