How To Brunch Guilt-Free: Tips From Our Dietitian!
By: VIDA Registered Dietitian & Brunch Pro Addie Merletti
Alright y’all, outdoor brunching (slash boozing) season is upon us. So is pool season. How do we enjoy our social lives without taking a big eraser to all the work we’ve done over the past 8 months (or one week) on our summer bods? Here are some ideas for smart ordering at a few popular DC brunch spots, so you can sip & bite without worrying about that post-brunch bloat!
Breakfast feels: Omelet Fines Herbes will be flavorful without being too fatty. Leave that goat cheese alone, the eggs have enough fat in them. If your speedo is feeling extra tight, ask very nicely to have no potatoes!
Lunch feels: Mussels La Mariniere, swap the frites for a side of avocado and romaine
All the feels: Their bubbly by the glass is by far the bougie-est and lowest calorie, but the Green Mary Verte comes in a close second with a cucumber/kale/apple puree (hi fiber) and jalapeno infused vodka!
Breakfast feels: Tomato and Cucumber salad + Huevos Rancheros
Lunch feels: Chicken Tinga Tacos + Shrimp Ceviche
All the feels: Ideally mimosa sans-OJ. Bloody Maria = salt and Agua Fresca = sugar
*Warning about bottomless brunch: don’t show up absolutely famished- even a serving of fruit before can keep you from getting buzzed too quickly and going HAM on the bacon!
Breakfast feels: Poached Eggs Basquaise- normally would steer away from “creamy” anything but the portion is juuust right.
Lunch feels: Salade Verte + Salmon Carpaccio
All the feels: When the wine list is this good, no need for a fancy cocktail. My absolute favorites are their Sancerre by the glass, or the good ole basic rosé by the glass!
Breakfast feels: Huevos Rancheros or the Energy Breakfast
Lunch feels: Blackened Chicken Sandwich or Ginger Chicken Quinoa Bowl
All the feels: the 1443 P Street if you need a cocktail, but they have 2 of my favorites by the glass: Dibon Cava & Whispering Angel rosé
