Break Your Plateau With a VIDA Personal Trainer!

By Elise Chretien

VIDA-Yards57194It’s the start of a New Year, and the perfect time to kick your workout up a notch with a VIDA personal trainer! Consulting with a trainer can make all the difference in the world when reaching your fitness goals. Plus, right now when you purchase a 50-pack of personal training sessions you get TWO months of free membership. That’s a win-win if I’ve ever seen one!

Whether you’re just starting out on your fitness journey or you’re already a certified gym rat, our trainers will give you the motivation and guidance you need to make your workouts as effective as possible. Your trainer will teach you proper technique and form and create a workout plan that is tailored to your goals and current fitness level.

As U Street Group Fitness Manager Alexx Griffin puts it, having a personal trainer is like getting your fitness prescription for the week.

“For example I could have someone do Spin on Monday, train with me on Tuesday and take yoga on Wednesday,” says Griffin. “We set up their entire fitness schedule.”

Our trainers here at VIDA specialize in a wide range of areas from burning fat to gaining muscle. After your initial consultation, you will be assigned to a trainer whose expertise best matches your goals.

“All of them are experienced in different niches,” says Griffin. “Whether that’s weight loss, functional training or Olympic lifting – we’re not ‘one trainer fits all.’ You’re going to get the one you need,” he says.

It can be intimidating to walk into a busy gym with little idea of what to expect or where to begin, which is why having a trained professional steer you in the right direction is imperative.

Isiah Munoz, Personal Training Manager at U Street, says that a key thing to remember when starting out is that everyone you see in the gym started somewhere.

“You have to make the mental commitment to change, have the desire to get in better shape (whatever that means for you) and make the choice to get help from a professional who can guide you through your journey,” says Munoz. “No one walks into a gym already in great shape,” he says.

So what can you expect in your first session? Munoz explains that you will start with a 10-15 minute background consultation, followed by a 10-20 minute movement assessment to determine any physical limitations, then finally a short workout and recap of the session to finish.

“We spend time learning about our members medical conditions, exercise background, fitness goals and diet, and then take them through a physical assessment to see how their body moves and how their cardiovascular system reacts under stress. All of these factors play a large role in a person’s physical make-up and having this knowledge ensures that they will be performing exercises safely,” says Munoz.

VIDA-Yards57109A common misconception about personal training is that it’s just for beginners – those stepping through doors of a gym for the first time. However, those who already work out consistently can reap just as many benefits from a personal training program as first-timers can due to the fresh perspective it provides on your current routine.

It’s easy to fall into the habit of doing the same workout over and over; it was working for a while so you assume if you keep doing it you’ll keep seeing results, right? Unfortunately, your body gets used to repetitive motions after a few sessions and eventually stops responding to them. This is where you reach the ultra-frustrating “plateau” and where it is essential to introduce new moves into your routine.

Our certified trainers are able to provide constantly varying workouts, giving your body the muscle confusion it needs to stay challenged and make changes! A program that lasts more than just a few sessions is ideal so that you have enough time to master the exercises and up the intensity on your workouts each week. Our 50-pack is perfect for those committed to making lasting changes over a lengthened period of time in a positive, supportive environment.

Don’t forget, if you purchase a 50-pack of personal training sessions you receive 2 months of membership free! For more information don’t hesitate to contact us at personaltraining@vidafitness.com. Happy training!
