5 Reasons To Start A VIDA 5K Team
By Mekita Rivas, VIDA editor/member
Summer is here, but we’re already thinking about race season. That’s right: It’s time to start getting in the zone for our 4th annual VIDA Thrive 5K Run/Walk! This year’s race will take place October 13 at Hains Point, and we’re inviting everyone to join us for this awesome (and flat!) race through Washington, D.C.’s beautiful and scenic waterfront.
We encourage you to start an official VIDA 5K Team with colleagues, friends, and family members to really get the most out of your race experience. Still need to be convinced? Check out the five reasons why you should start a VIDA 5K Team!
Bond with friends and family.
Teamwork makes the dream work. If you’ve been looking for a way to spend more time with friends and family, starting a team is a great way to ensure that you stay in touch and work toward a common goal. You can schedule practice runs and workouts together, all while helping each other maintain motivation.
Or make new friends!
Starting a team can also mean making new connections and meeting people outside your network. As others get added onto your team, they may extend the invite to the folks in their social circles. Before you know it, your team could end up being bigger than you anticipated, which means lots of fresh faces. You know what they say: The more, the merrier!
Raise money for a good cause.
And runners won’t only be running for themselves. As always, all race profits will benefit Thrive DC — a non-profit organization committed to preventing and ending homelessness in the DC area. If you or someone you know can’t make the race but wants to support Thrive DC, donate directly to the organization online.
Set a new PR.
Any race presents another opportunity to set a new PR. Why not make it this one? Since the course at Hain’s Point is pretty flat, it’s the ideal place to go after that new finish time. With the big day still a couple months away, you have plenty of time to train and get in race-shape. We look forward to celebrating a new milestone with you at the finish line!
Of course, it all comes down to having a good time and making a difference while we’re at it. Whether this is your first 5K or your hundredth, we’d love for you to join us for a morning full of fun. Run with your friends, family, kids, pets, or solo — just come run alongside us and help us raise even more money than last year for a truly great cause.
